—(Fun fact: Maykop is known as “the valley of apple trees”)

Did you play sports in high school?

I did not play any sports- I was mostly involved in academic groups, such as National Honors Society, etc.

Where did you go to school?

Undergraduate: the University of Texas at Austin
J.D.- SMU Dedman School of Law

What did you Major in?

Communication Studies—Political Communication
I also completed a business foundations program at the McCombs School of Business at UT.

Why did you choose family law?

“I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would have some sort of impact on others, and I thought that the practice of law, especially family law, would give me a great outlet for that. Family law also encompasses other aspects that I enjoy such as helping people, problem-solving, and writing.”

How did you end up at Duffee + Eitzen?

In high school, I was part of an Independent Study and Mentorship Program (“ISM”). The program required students to interview and seek out professionals who worked in their chosen area of study and who would be willing to serve as mentors to the students in order for the students to gain first-hand experience in their selected area of study. My area of study was family law. I interviewed several family attorneys and selected Melinda to be my mentor, and she kindly agreed. We reconnected again several years later, in law school, at which point I began clerking for Duffee+Eitzen and stayed on with the firm after graduation as an associate.

What’s your favorite aspect of cases so far?

Legal writing. I particularly enjoy drafting trial briefs because I get to be creative while crafting legal arguments.

Favorite movie?

The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock

Any Hobbies?

Shopping, eating, spending time with my two dogs, and traveling with my boyfriend.

We are an incredibly lucky firm! Stay tuned!
